Description
Position Summary
The Residential Counselor provides direct care, supervision, and support to individuals experiencing acute mental health and/or substance-use crises within a residential crisis stabilization setting. This role focuses on maintaining a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment while supporting clients in de-escalation, stabilization, and connection to ongoing services.
Key Responsibilities

Provide continuous supervision and support to residents in a crisis stabilization environment.

Assist clients with daily living activities, routines, and basic needs.

Monitor client behavior, mood, and safety; promptly report changes or concerns to clinical staff.

Utilize trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and de-escalation techniques during crises.

Support implementation of individualized treatment plans and safety plans.

Conduct regular safety checks, room checks, and documentation per facility policy.

Assist with admissions, discharges, and client orientation to the program.

Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).

Collaborate with clinicians, nurses, case managers, and external providers.

Enforce program rules and boundaries in a respectful and consistent manner.

Respond to behavioral emergencies following approved crisis intervention protocols.

Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly living environment.

Uphold client confidentiality, dignity, and rights at all times.
Qualifications
Education

High school diploma or GED required.

Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, or related field preferred.
Experience
-
Minimum of 1 year of experience in behavioral health, crisis services, residential care, or related human services preferred.

Experience working with individuals experiencing mental health crises, substance use disorders, or co-occurring disorders strongly preferred.
Certifications & Requirements
-
Crisis intervention training (CPI) required or obtained within required time frame.

Ability to pass background check and TB screening
