As a business, your website is often going to be your introduction to potential hires, and you'll want to make sure everything on it presents you in the best possible light, according to Top Workplaces. A big part of that effort should be having a careers page that lists the jobs you have available and some in-depth information about how your company values its workers and allows them to advance.
2) Write better job descriptions
Along similar lines, it can be vitally important to ensure that the job descriptions you post accurately detail everything you're looking for, what the job actually entails, what it pays, the benefits employees receive and more, Top Workplaces noted. The more you can do to show exactly what's expected and what's in it for the right candidate, the more likely you'll be to attract top talent.
3) Think about it from the applicant's perspective
Once you have the basics of active and passive outreach nailed down, you need to focus on your internal hiring processes, according to Ideal. How do things proceed for everyone who applies to you? How are you communicating with candidates at every step? Inconsistencies and a lack of an applicant-first attitude can hamper your reputation and hiring ability.
4) Try to cut down the time the hiring process takes
In today's job market, if you're not hiring the right person quickly, you might not be able to hire them at all, Ideal said. From start to finish, your entire hiring effort might need to take no more than a couple of weeks, or else you may find the best candidates end up taking jobs elsewhere instead.
5) Don't be as focused on skills
Many industries say they are having difficulties these days when it comes to hiring people who come to the table with all the right skills — and as such, maybe a focus on applicants having the all those skills isn't ideal, according to Coassemble. Instead, focus on hiring people with some or the skills you need, but a great attitude. You can train for the rest of the skills you need later on.
6) Get candidate feedback
Whenever you complete a hiring process, it can be helpful to talk to your new hire about what they liked in the effort, and what they didn't, Coassemble recommended. That way, you have actionable information that can help you tweak the negatives and lean into the positives that much more for next time.
