Summary: Under indirect supervision and utilizing Magnetic Resonance Imaging equipment, produces diagnostic quality cross-sectional images of the brain, spinal cord, head and neck, thorax, abdomen, pelvis, large joints and other areas of the human anatomy and vasculature. Performs basic and advanced protocols and uses/manipulates hardware and technical parameters in order to maximize Magnetic Resonance image quality and acquire images that can be utilized by physicians in order to diagnose disease processes and pathology.
Duties:
- Interviews patient to explain magnetic resonance imaging procedures, obtain patient history and conduct imaging screens (e.g., checking for in-vivo metal objects); correlates requested exam with patient history and diagnosis
- Positions patient as required for requested exam or uses variations to ensure proper positioning of patient to magnet isocenter
- Selects appropriate coil for requested exam and positions coil (such as head coil or knee coil) to demonstrate area of interest and to obtain maximum transmit and receive signal; selects monitoring devices and support equipment as required by patient condition
- Obtains optimal MR imaging throughout entire region of interest by selecting and applying imaging parameters such as - but not limited to - field of view, number of slices, slice thickness, number of excitations (acquisitions), repetition time, echo time, phase direction, frequency direction, matrix and gap between slices; performs tuning procedures; utilizes appropriate protocols for producing optimal images; identifies and uses appropriate planes for a particular exam; modifies protocols as required to produce optimal images; identifies artifacts if present and corrects for problem.
- Recognizes the need for additional sequences, changes in protocols and the need for paramagnetic contrast studies based on patient pathology, physical condition or image quality problems.
- Differentiates normal anatomy and normal variations in appearance in planes from abnormal conditions in order to make associated changes in imaging.
- May apply special applications of MR such as contrast agents/studies, MR angiography, MR interventional, magnetization transfer imaging (MTI ), echo planar, spectroscopy, maximum intensity projection, cine and perfusion/diffusion imaging Enters into computer specific data such as patient history, anatomical area to be scanned, orientation specified; keys commands to specify scan sequences into computer and adjusts transmitters and receivers; views images of area being scanned on video display screens to ensure image quality.
- Films scan results utilizing a laser camera or photographs images and processes film.

Basic Qualifications:
- Two (2) years of clinical experience as a Radiologic Technologist in an acute care medical center 6 months of clinical experience as a Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist in an acute care medical center
- BLS

Job Summary:
Under general supervision, perform routine and highly specialized diagnostics and therapeutic interventional radiology procedures on patients following established parameters/ protocols for use by physicians in diagnosis and treatment of pathologies. Assist in maintaining a smooth operational flow and maximum patient volume. the cardiovascular-interventional technologist assumes many roles within an interventional procedure. Maintain a high degree of accuracy and an awareness of all radiation and patient safety issues involved with ay invasive procedure. Demonstrate a thorough understanding and working knowledge of normal anatomy, abnormal anatomy and physiology, radiation safety, interventional supplies and equipment operation. Recognize and resolve equipment operations. Recognize and resolve equipment problems and discrepancies, anticipate patient needs and concerns and determine the appropriate care needed. Use professional judgment and critical thinking when performing procedures.
Clinical Practice/Patient Care
- Operates extremely technical imaging equipment and applies ionizing radiation to the patient in accordance with SOPs, according to departmental policies, procedures/protocols an as appropriate for the particular patient.
- Greets and receives patients. Checks patient's ID. Explains procedure to patient.
- Positions patients according to department's procedure manual. Moves and/or assists patients onto table in accordance with departmental procedures. Provides for the patient's comfort during the procedures.
- Performs diagnostic & therapeutic procedures, utilizing image-guided surgical procedures, sterile technique and radiographic technique.
- Operates laser imagers and Radiographic / Fluoroscopic equipment to obtain radiographic images. Critiques radiographs for quality ad accuracy. Selects and films images for permanent record.
- Provides radiation protection in accordance with regulations. Selects accurate technical factors on an individual patient basis.
- Reviews history and pertinent images with designated interventional Radiologist to assure appropriate application of procedure. Discusses plan and equipment necessary for the procedure.
- Assists physicians with specialized diagnostics and interventional procedures by handling equipment, preparing procedure and instrument trays, prepping and explaining procedures to patients and other related tasks under the supervision of an Interventional Radiologist. May include the insertion of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICCs) with certification and documented training.
- Responds effectively to patient care emergencies.
- Utilizes universal precautions at all times when working with patients. Sets up and maintains a sterile field by using sterile techniques; opens sterile procedures trays where applicable.
- In conjunction with the IR nurses and radiologist, monitors patient condition throughout the procedure. Uses EKG equipment, Intravenous pumps, Blood Pressure equipment, pulse oximeter and related routine equipment to maintain continuous patient care while patient is undergoing procedure.
- Prepares radiopaque materials for administration by Radiologist. Opens contrast material, maintaining integrity of the sterile syringes, needles and draws-up contrast for injection in accordance with departmental procedures.
- cleans and disinfects equipment and procedure room. Troubleshoots technical and mechanical problems and performs minor maintenance on equipment, i.e. Laser imagers and film processors, in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Records and accumulates patient statistics in daily logbooks, enters data into the Radiology Information (RIS) and supply inventory systems. Completes records accurately, including the physician-billing sheet, when applicable.
- Records appropriate ICD-9 and CPT codes.
- Responds to urgent and emergent imaging procedures by being available on a rotating call-in basis.
- Demonstrates basic competencies in processing images and troubleshooting.
Unit Management:
- Reviews and requests daily for Interventional procedures and assists in prioritizing for a smooth workflow. Addresses any issues impeding the workforce.
- Performs minor troubleshooting operations. Initiates calls for equipment problems. Documents equipment problems in accordance to the department policy and procedures manual.
- Communicates effectively with patients, nurses and physicians, particularly regarding information on angiography procedures requiring specialized patients preparation.
- Communicates with clinicians regarding patient preparation for angiography/interventional procedures, procedure results and to assist in resolving problems as needed.
- Communicates and assists the Interventional Radiologist in developing and modifying angiography/interventional practices/procedures.

Communicates new product information to the staff in a timely manner.
Preceptor:
- Provides technical guidance to Interventional staff to help resolve difficult problems or questions, which arises in the execution of angiography/intervention procedures.
- May provide input for staff Interventional Radiographer's performance evaluations and disciplinary process as requested. Provides feedback on daily work performance, correcting procedure errors and recommending alternate work methods.
- provides in-service training and teaching to other Interventional staff, nurses and physicians. Assists in department training and orientation of new IR techs.
Professional Development:
- Attends in-service training programs and other relevant training sessions for professional growth and development.
- has Advanced Certification in Cardiovascular Interventional Radiology or Vascular Interventional Radiology, or Cardiac Interventional Radiology.
Job Requirements:
- 3+ Years recent Radiologic technologist experience + Minimum 1 year in Interventional Radiology
- May substitute 1 year IR experience with successful completion of the Regional IR cross training program.
- Advance Certificate in Radiologic Technology (ARRT) required

Job Summary:
Under indirect supervision and utilizing Magnetic Resonance Imaging equipment, produces diagnostic quality cross-sectional images of the brain, spinal cord, head and neck, thorax, abdomen, pelvis, large joints and other areas of the human anatomy and vasculature. Performs basic and advanced protocols and uses/manipulates hardware and technical parameters in order to maximize Magnetic Resonance image quality and acquire images that can be utilized by physicians in order to diagnose disease processes and pathology.
MRI Tech Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:
- Observes all applicable Regional, Medical Center & department policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturation process in delivery of services to patients of the age group served.
- Able to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age specific needs and to provide the care needed in accordance with department policy.
- Documents clinical activities in a timely, comprehensive and accurate manner. Maintains standards of professional behavior established to enhance quality of service.
- Demonstrates effective communication skills.
- Demonstrates professional conduct in all interactions with patient and staff. Maintains equipment, supplies and work area in accordance with department guidelines.
- Interviews patient to explain magnetic resonance imaging procedures, obtain patient history and conduct imaging screens (e.g., checking for in-vivo metal objects); correlates requested exam with patient history and diagnosis
- Positions patient as required for requested exam or uses variations to ensure proper positioning of patient to magnet isocenter
- Selects appropriate coil for requested exam and positions coil (such as head coil or knee coil) to demonstrate area of interest and to obtain maximum transmit and receive signal; selects monitoring devices and support equipment as required by patient condition
- Obtains optimal MR imaging throughout entire region of interest by selecting and applying imaging parameters such as - but not limited to - field of view, number of slices, slice thickness, number of excitations (acquisitions), repetition time, echo time, phase direction, frequency direction, matrix and gap between slices; performs tuning procedures; utilizes appropriate protocols for producing optimal images; identifies and uses appropriate planes for a particular exam; modifies protocols as required to produce optimal images; identifies artifacts if present and corrects for problem.
- Recognizes the need for additional sequences, changes in protocols and the need for paramagnetic contrast studies based on patient pathology, physical condition or image quality problems.
- Differentiates normal anatomy and normal variations in appearance in planes from abnormal conditions in order to make associated changes in imaging.
- May apply special applications of MR such as contrast agents/studies, MR angiography, MR interventional, magnetization transfer imaging (MTI ), echo planar, spectroscopy, maximum intensity projection, cine and perfusion/diffusion imaging Enters into computer specific data such as patient history, anatomical area to be scanned, orientation specified; keys commands to specify scan sequences into computer and adjusts transmitters and receivers; views images of area being scanned on video display screens to ensure image quality.
- Films scan results utilizing a laser camera or photographs images and processes film.
Job Requirements:
- 2+ years of clinical experience as a MRI Tech in an acute care medical center required
- Successful completion of an accredited educational program in radiological technology approved by the American Medical Association and the American College of Radiology
- BLS certification required
- Registration as a Radiologic Technologist (Radiography) issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) Registration as a Radiologic Technologist (Radiography) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- Experience with GE 1.5 MRI systems is a plus.
- Advanced Certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging issued by the ARRT.
- Experience with Advantage Windows workstation.
- Experience with PACS.
